The problem statement was released to the community on the 7th November 2006.<\/p>\n<h5>In a nutshell<\/h5>\n<p>7075 asteroids were divided into 4 groups and a low-thrust propelled\u00a0spacecraft had to visit one\u00a0asteroid\u00a0belonging to each group\u00a0for a period of at least 30 days. The single legs were optimized using an indirect method.<\/p>\n<h5>Curiosities<\/h5>\n<p>The second and third ranked trajectories were quite far off the winning solution in terms of objective function.<\/p>\n<p>The problem was inspired also by the <a href=\"http:\/\/dawn.jpl.nasa.gov\/\">spacecraft Dawn<\/a> designed by JPL to randezvous with two asteroids, Vesta and Ceres<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This edition was organised by Anastassios Petropoulos of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Outer Planets Mission Analysis Group.
